Russian strikes intensify across southern and central Ukraine, causing civilian casualties and infrastructure damage

Russian forces conducted extensive drone and artillery strikes across Ukraine overnight, targeting infrastructure in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kherson regions. The coordinated assaults, which occurred on Thursday night and continued into early Friday, resulted in at least one fatality and multiple injuries. Local authorities in the affected areas have confirmed significant damage to both civilian and public infrastructure, highlighting the ongoing intensity of the conflict in these southern and central territories.

In the Odesa region, a drone attack damaged port facilities and two multistorey residential buildings, destroying apartments and igniting fires. Regional Governor Oleh Kiper confirmed the damage on Friday morning, noting that two people were injured and that assistance was being provided to victims. The attack underscores the vulnerability of civilian infrastructure in the Black Sea port city, where high-rise residential areas have become targets for Russian forces.

Further south, the Black Sea shipbuilding town of Mykolaiv also faced drone strikes that damaged private sector property and caused a fire. Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych reported the incident on Facebook, warning residents that the threat remains ongoing and urging them to remain sheltered. The damage in Mykolaiv adds to the pattern of attacks on private and public assets in the region, complicating local efforts to maintain stability amidst the active conflict.

In central Ukraine, the Dnipropetrovsk region was attacked almost 20 times with drones and artillery across three districts. The head of the Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Ganzha, reported damage in Kryvyi Rih, where one person was injured, as well as strikes on the Synelnyky district and the Dubovykivska and Petropavlivska communities. Additional damage was recorded in the Nikopol district, affecting a private house, a petrol station, an administrative building, and buses.

The Kherson community was not spared, with four settlements including Kherson, Zymivnyk, Komyshany, and Zelenivka subjected to enemy attacks over the past 24 hours. Defence Ministry head Yaroslav Shanko stated that the assaults resulted in one death and eight injuries. Damage was reported to private houses, multistorey buildings, administrative structures, warehouses, and civilian vehicles, reflecting the broad scope of the Russian offensive in the area.

In retaliation for these strikes, Ukraine executed its fourth drone attack in a week on the Russian Black Sea port of Tuapse. The Kyiv regime targeted the seaport terminal, causing a fire that emergency crews worked to contain. The General Headquarters in the Krasnodar Region confirmed the incident on Telegram, noting that this action continues Ukraine's broader strategy to target Russian energy infrastructure and halt oil revenues.

Local authorities in Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk have actively reported damage and are coordinating assistance for victims via Telegram and social media platforms. As casualty figures may be incomplete and the extent of damage to critical infrastructure continues to be assessed, residents in targeted areas face continued risk from ongoing attacks and potential fires.
