'Little shocked': Steelers react to Rodgers' retur...
Quarterback’s early arrival surprises teammates as he resumes first-team reps

Aaron Rodgers attended the Pittsburgh Steelers’ voluntary Organized Team Activities on Monday, marking his return to the practice field shortly after finalising a one-year contract valued at up to $25 million. The 42-year-old quarterback arrived at the facility just after 7 a.m., prompting surprise among teammates who were accustomed to his delayed arrival during the previous season.

Inside linebacker Payton Wilson admitted he was “a little shocked” to encounter Rodgers as he left the building to undergo a physical with head athletic trainer Gabe Amponsah. Rodgers completed the examination around 7:45 a.m. and returned to the facility, with the team officially announcing his signing just before the 11 a.m. practice start. This early reintegration contrasts with last year, when Rodgers did not sign his contract until just before mandatory minicamp.

During the media viewing period, Rodgers took first-team offensive reps alongside receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and DK Metcalf. He completed five throws during the passing segment, including two to Pittman and single completions to DK Metcalf, Roman Wilson, and Pat Freiermuth. Quarterbacks Will Howard, Drew Allar, and Mason Rudolph worked with subsequent groups after Rodgers ceded the first-team spot.

Pittman, who was acquired by the Steelers in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts, noted that Rodgers has not yet corrected him on specific details but acknowledged the quarterback’s high standards. Pittman, who previously played with Philip Rivers, stated he believes Rodgers will achieve similar Hall of Fame status. He described Rodgers as a “super vet” who provides clear leadership and immediate feedback on execution.

Tackle Troy Fautanu, who switched from right tackle to left tackle for the session, said he learned of the return via social media. He described the adjustment to Rodgers’ unique cadence as brief, noting that the unit quickly resumed its rhythm from the previous year. Kicker Chris Boswell also welcomed the early return, stating that having Rodgers around the squad was an unambiguously positive development for the team’s preparation.
