Rennes weigh loan return for Martin Terrier as attack rebuilds

Stade Rennais are reportedly assessing the possibility of re-signing Bayer Leverkusen forward Martin Terrier on a loan basis, according to a report from French outlet Foot Mercato. The move would see the 29-year-old Frenchman return to the Breton club two years after his initial departure for the Bundesliga.

The potential transfer is driven by the need to bolster Rennes’ attacking options following the permanent exit of Breel Embolo, who has joined Atlanta United in Major League Soccer. While the club has already secured the services of Eliezer Mayenda and retained Esteban Lepaul, the loss of Embolo has left a significant void in the forward line that Rennes are keen to fill.

Terrier’s time in Germany has been characterised by injury struggles, limiting him to just 44 appearances and seven goals across two seasons at Leverkusen. This stands in stark contrast to his previous tenure at Roazhon Park, where he established himself as a prolific scorer, netting 51 goals and providing 24 assists in 141 games in all competitions.
