Reddit plans tighter access to Old Reddit and RSS shutdown
The planned Old Reddit limits target accounts without recent use, while RSS support is scheduled to end on 13 November 2026.
Reddit plans to restrict access to Old Reddit in the next few months, limiting it to logged-in users who have used the classic layout in the preceding six months. The company announced the change in an update on r/modnews, according to Engadget.
New accounts and existing users who have not used the interface recently will lose access. Logged-in moderators will be exempt from the recent-use requirement. Reddit has not given an exact rollout date or said whether it will eventually discontinue Old Reddit.
Reddit says the older interface is a significant source of AI scraping. The company also said an earlier login requirement had reduced automated abuse, but did not quantify the change.
The company is also ending RSS support on 13 November 2026. Reddit says feeds have become a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse, while acknowledging RSS has long been used to follow content across the open web.
The changes extend Reddit’s broader effort to curb scraping, which has included API changes that curtailed third-party clients and a move towards a more controlled developer platform.
