Red Sox drop Roman Anthony from Wild Card roster after wrist damage
Boston replaced the outfielder with Curtis Mead after imaging found additional muscle damage in Anthony’s right hand and wrist, manager Chad Tracy said.

Boston has removed Roman Anthony from its American League Wild Card Series roster after imaging showed additional muscle damage in his right hand and wrist, Red Sox manager Chad Tracy said on Wednesday.
Infielder Curtis Mead takes Anthony’s place. Tracy said Anthony would miss the rest of the series and the foreseeable future. No return date or specific recovery timeframe was given.
Anthony left Game 1 in the sixth inning after his hand flared up and he was too uncomfortable to keep hitting, Tracy said. He had started as Boston’s designated hitter and leadoff hitter, striking out in two at-bats before being replaced. The Red Sox lost 9–0 to the Yankees.
Anthony returned to the lineup on 30 August after missing 101 games with a partially torn tendon in his right hand and wrist. Tracy said Boston sought further imaging after the injury worsened following Game 1.
This is the second consecutive year Anthony has missed Boston’s Wild Card Series against New York. He was sidelined last year with an oblique injury.
