Rajat Patidar’s fire burns Gujarat Titans out of Qualifier 1 as ruthless Royal Challengers Bengaluru march into second straight IPL final
Patidar’s record-breaking knock guides Bengaluru to 92-run win over defending champions Gujarat Titans

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have secured their place in the Indian Premier League final for the second consecutive year, defeating defending champions Gujarat Titans by 92 runs in Qualifier 1 at Dharamsala on Tuesday. The victory, orchestrated by captain Rajat Patidar, ensures the franchise will contest the championship match, while Gujarat Titans are relegated to Qualifier 2.

Patidar’s unbeaten 93 off 33 balls set a new record for the highest strike rate in an IPL playoff innings, registering at 281.82. His innings, which included nine sixes and five boundaries, was pivotal in lifting Bengaluru to a formidable total of 254 for five. The captain capitalised on two dropped catches in the 14th over to accelerate the scoring, forming a crucial 95-run partnership with Krunal Pandya, who contributed 43 runs.

Supporting contributions from Virat Kohli, who scored 43 off 25 balls, and Devdutt Padikkal, who added 30, helped Bengaluru establish a strong foundation. Venkatesh Iyer provided an aggressive start with 19 runs before being dismissed by Kagiso Rabada. The team’s ability to score heavily in the death overs, including 114 runs in the final six overs, placed immense pressure on the opposition.

In response, Gujarat Titans struggled to contain the run rate and lost wickets at regular intervals. The chase began poorly with Sai Sudharsan falling for 14 in an unusual manner, followed quickly by captain Shubman Gill for two. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets, moving to the top of the Purple Cap standings with 26 wickets, while Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Salam further dismantled the batting lineup.

Despite a fighting 68 from Rahul Tewatia, Gujarat Titans were bowled out for 162. The result marks Bengaluru’s fifth IPL final appearance since 2009. Gujarat Titans will now face the winner of the Eliminator match between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 for the remaining spot in the final.
