Rangers halt losing streak with comeback win over Athletics
Texas secures 22nd comeback victory of the season as Mackenzie Gore pitches effectively and bullpen holds firm.
The Texas Rangers concluded a four-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night in West Sacramento, California. The win marked the Rangers’ 22nd comeback victory of the season, highlighting a resilience that has defined their campaign thus far.
Wyatt Langford provided the decisive momentum with a go-ahead, two-run home run in the sixth inning. Measuring 421 feet to left-center field, the blast gave Texas a one-run lead after Corey Seager had driven in a run with an RBI single on the preceding pitch. Langford’s power display came after Oakland had taken an early advantage.
Oakland’s Henry Bolte, a 23-year-old rookie, had opened the scoring in the second inning with a three-run homer. The hit was initially ruled a foul ball but was confirmed via replay review after the ball was seen scraping the outside of the foul pole. Bolte finished the game 3-for-5, including the home run and a double, marking his sixth three-hit game of the season.
Mackenzie Gore (7-9) pitched 5 2/3 innings for Texas, allowing three runs on eight hits. He was supported by a strong defensive effort and timely hitting from Corey Seager, Nicky Lopez, and Jarred Kelenic, who each drove in a run. Lopez singled to center for the Rangers’ first run in the fifth inning, while Kelenic added an RBI in the ninth as a pinch-hitter.
The Rangers’ bullpen secured the win, with three relievers combining for 3 1/3 hitless innings. Jacob Latz recorded his 24th save by working two frames to close out the contest. For Oakland, J.T. Ginn (8-7) pitched six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out seven batters.
The series concludes on Sunday with a matchup between Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford (0-1, 2.38 ERA) and Athletics left-hander Jacob Lopez (5-4, 5.38 ERA).
