33-34 – Rangers survive bruising battle in KC, win 6-4 in 10
Injuries and controversial calls mark a bruising contest at Kauffman Stadium

The Texas Rangers improved to 2-0 in extra-innings games this season, defeating the Kansas City Royals 6-4 in ten innings at Kauffman Stadium on June 11, 2026. The victory marks only the second time the Rangers have played beyond the ninth inning this season, following a similar hard-fought win in Philadelphia in March.

The contest was defined by significant physical tolls and tactical disruptions. Royals starting pitcher Seth Lugo was forced to leave after 3.3 innings after being struck in the forehead by a 106 mph comebacker from Rangers designated hitter Brandon Nimmo. Additionally, Rangers designated hitter Joc Pederson exited the game after injuring himself while drawing a walk.

Texas secured the lead in the eighth inning when Elias Diaz doubled in the go-ahead run. Diaz had entered the game as a pinch-hitter after starting catcher Kyle Higashioka was lifted for a pinch runner. The Rangers added an insurance run in the tenth inning via a bases-loaded walk, sealing the win after the Royals failed to score despite loading the bases with zero outs in the bottom of the frame.

The game featured a controversial replay review at the plate that the Rangers lost, despite players including Royals catcher Sal Perez appearing confident the call would favour Texas. Both teams struggled to capitalise on scoring opportunities; the Rangers went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position, leaving 14 runners on base, while the Royals went 4-for-13, leaving 13 on base.

Nicky Lopez was named Player of the Game for his contributions, which included a double, a single that scored a run, a tenth-inning walk, and a hit-by-pitch that ignited a bases-loaded opportunity resulting in the tying run in the eighth. The series concludes tomorrow at 1:10 pm CDT, with Rangers right-hander Kumar Rocker facing Royals right-hander Michael Wacha.
