Rams depth chart reset: Jarquez Hunter strikes a blow in RB#3 battle
NFL Preseason

The Los Angeles Rams have issued a significant update to their depth chart following a comprehensive 34-0 win over the New Orleans Saints in the second week of the 2026 preseason. The performance, which saw the Rams’ reserves outclass a visiting team described as sleep-walking, has provided clarity on several key roster positions ahead of the final preseason fixture.

Undrafted rookie Jarquez Hunter has staked a strong claim to the RB#3 position, rushing for 68 yards at 5.7 yards per carry. Hunter’s display of power and speed has positioned him as a frontrunner for the role, while veteran Ronnie Rivers remains in the mix despite limited playing time in previous seasons.

In the quarterback battle, Stetson Bennett delivered a high-efficiency performance, recording four touchdowns in five possessions. Although his passing accuracy on outside routes remains a point of observation, his effectiveness between the numbers has solidified his standing. Matthew Caldwell has been marked as out for the opening roster, while Ty Simpson continues to compete for a spot.

On the offensive line, undrafted rookie Austin Blaske has received accolades for his play, further strengthening the unit’s depth. The wide receiver battle has narrowed, with Xavier Smith listed as likely for a roster spot, while Tru Edwards and Alex Bachman have been marked as out.

The team is now preparing for a final roster reset before their Thursday night preseason finale against the San Diego Chargers. This upcoming game will serve as the last opportunity to assess player readiness before the opening 53-man roster is finalised.
