Rahm secures third straight LIV season title as La Sasso takes Indianapolis finale

Jon Rahm has cemented his status as the dominant force in LIV Golf, securing his third consecutive season points title and second straight team crown at the season finale in suburban Indianapolis. The 31-year-old Spaniard finished as runner-up, one stroke behind 22-year-old Michael La Sasso, who claimed the event victory with a final-round 65 to finish at 18 under. Rahm closed out the tournament with a 7-under 63, marking his second consecutive runner-up finish at the venue.

The tournament, held at The Club at Chatham Hills, proceeded despite historic flooding in central Indiana that necessitated improvised logistical arrangements for spectators. Organisers implemented temporary parking and shuttle systems, while also installing electronic scoreboards, video boards, and temporary suites around the course to manage the expanded four-round event. This format marks the return of top-flight men’s golf to metropolitan Indianapolis for the first time since the 2012 and 2016 BMW Championships.

La Sasso, the 2025 NCAA individual champion from Mississippi, secured the win with a two-foot putt on the 18th hole. The victory was met with celebratory champagne and enthusiastic crowds, including chants of "U-S-A!" from local attendees. While organisers did not release official attendance figures for this year’s tournament, last year’s three-round event at the same venue attracted over 60,000 fans, setting an American record for a LIV event.

Local attendees noted that the current event was better managed and more relaxed compared to the previous year’s inaugural tournament. Jacob Meyer, a Westfield resident, observed that the operation was smoother, with cleaner traffic management and better rope setups. His friend, Jackson Gangwer, added that the atmosphere was less intense than the first year, reflecting a more established presence for the tour in the region.

Rahm indicated he will return to the Irish Open after a brief period at home with his family, as his fourth child is due in October. He acknowledged the challenges faced by local residents due to the flooding, expressing gratitude for the continued support from the crowd despite the disruptions. The season finale also highlighted the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the league’s future, with the season-ending Team Championship in Michigan facing potential cancellation due to the withdrawal of financial backing by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

Although the league has secured an unnamed lead investor for 2027, the status of the Michigan event remains unofficial, as no formal public statement regarding its cancellation has been issued, despite tickets being withdrawn. This development adds a layer of institutional complexity to an otherwise successful season finale for LIV Golf.
