Rafters ruling shapes Brewers’ NLDS win over Padres
Milwaukee came from behind to take Game 1, with a challenged ninth-inning call leaving Ty France out after his fly ball struck overhead cables.

Milwaukee beat San Diego in Game 1 of the National League Division Series after a disputed play in the ninth inning helped close out the Brewers’ win.
With a runner on first, Padres first baseman Ty France hit a high fly ball to left field off closer Trevor Megill. The ball struck cables in the rafters before landing in left fielder Jackson Chourio’s glove.
The on-field call was that France was out. Padres manager Craig Stammen challenged, and crew chief Alfonso Marquez confirmed the ruling: the ball was fair and France was out. Fox Sports’ account does not provide the specific rule basis for the decision.
The ruling was the second out of the inning. Megill then retired San Diego’s Jackson Merrill on a fly ball to seal the win.
Milwaukee had trailed 2–0 early in the game. Chourio hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and William Contreras’s solo homer in the seventh put the Brewers in front.
