Racehorse Marvelous Madison euthanised after Saratoga injury
The four-year-old filly was found to have a displaced fracture in her left hind leg after finishing fifth in the Yaddo Stakes.
Marvelous Madison was euthanised after suffering a displaced fracture in her left hind leg following her fifth-place finish in the Yaddo Stakes at Saratoga on 30 August.
The four-year-old filly, trained by Jorge Abreu, was returned to her barn after the race. She later became reluctant to place full weight on the affected leg, described in the New York State Gaming Commission’s Equine Death and Breakdown Database as “toe touching lame”.
Further evaluation revealed the displaced fracture. The Gaming Commission database recorded a poor prognosis before Marvelous Madison was euthanised. It classified the incident as “other”, rather than specifically racing- or training-related.
Marvelous Madison raced seven times and won twice. Four of her starts, including both victories, came at Saratoga, where she won an allowance race on 26 July in her first race since August 2025.
The database has listed three other fatalities during Saratoga’s 2026 summer meet, all recorded as training-related. Those incidents involved separate horses and were not linked to Marvelous Madison’s case.
