Qatar’s prime minister calls for accountability over Gaza
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said Israel’s response was unjustified and outlined conditions he considers necessary to end the war on Iran.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, has called for accountability over the conflict in Gaza, saying Israel’s response to the Hamas-led 7 October 2023 attack was unjustified. He made the remarks in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, reported by Al Jazeera.
Sheikh Mohammed described the 2023 attack as a massacre that should be condemned, and said those responsible should be held accountable. He also said attacks on hospitals and schools could not be justified.
The Qatari leader claimed more than 1,400 Palestinians had been killed since a ceasefire took effect in October 2025. He said Israeli forces occupied almost 70 per cent of the Gaza Strip and were not meeting the agreement’s commitments. Al Jazeera’s account did not independently verify those figures.
Sheikh Mohammed said Qatar would continue its behind-the-scenes diplomacy and mediation. He said Qatar’s ceasefire efforts had been undermined by Israel and condemned Israel’s 2025 strike in Doha during negotiations with Hamas officials.
On the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran, Sheikh Mohammed identified three issues for resolution: Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear power and the removal of sanctions; freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz under international law; and regional security arrangements involving Iran and Gulf Cooperation Council states.
He said regional security arrangements would require dialogue between Iran and GCC countries, including agreement on non-interference and non-aggression.
