The shift towards more joint practices and reduced starter participation in the NFL preseason has generally curbed major projection swings, often filtering out false signals. However, the events of the most recent week have produced definitive movers that may not yet be fully reflected in average draft positions. As analysts prepare for upcoming drafts, the focus has turned to injury-related uncertainties that demand immediate strategic responses.

The primary catalyst for this week’s adjustments is running back Ashton Jeanty, who left practice on Sunday with an injury of unknown severity. While no official diagnosis has been released, the reaction from teammates and trainers suggests concern, with the team observing a moment of silence as he was aided off the field. Jeanty was previously considered a borderline first-round pick, but in one-quarterback leagues, he is now being drafted no earlier than pick number 35 until further details emerge.

If Jeanty’s injury proves to be season-ending, his backup Mike Washington Jr. emerges as a significant riser. Washington has recorded 119 rushing yards on 15 carries across two preseason games. Should the uncertainty resolve in favour of Washington, his draft value is projected to rise to a Round 5 pick or higher, although some analysts are targeting him in the later rounds pending further news.

In Houston, the confirmed season-ending ACL injury to wide receiver Jayden Higgins has altered the hierarchy of the Texans’ receiving corps. Higgins suffered the torn ACL during a joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders on 19 August. With Tank Dell and Jaylin Noel also battling injuries, Nico Collins is now considered a Round 2 pick in full PPR leagues. Xavier Hutchinson is expected to serve as the team’s second-best receiver, while Dell and Noel remain late-round options.

The most substantial ranking change involves tight end Dalton Schultz, who is now ranked as a borderline top-12 tight end and a Round 10 pick. Schultz recorded 106 targets last season on a team that also featured Higgins and Christian Kirk, the latter of whom is no longer on the roster. If Dell or Noel fail to step up, Schultz could approach 120 targets, potentially securing a top-six finish at his position.

In New Orleans, the potential absence of Alvin Kamara has elevated Travis Etienne to a top-12 running back and a Round 3 pick. Although Kamara’s contract was restructured, his expected absence from the season’s start has shifted projections in Etienne’s favour. Etienne is now projected for 290 touches, with analysts noting his upside extends well beyond that figure. Meanwhile, in New York, Tyrone Tracy has been dropped outside the first 10 rounds, while Javonte Harris is viewed as a late-round backup option behind Cam Skattebo.
