Pochettino says reported City finding raises questions over Premier League controls
The former Tottenham and Chelsea manager says the reported panel finding has damaged sporting fairness. Manchester City plans to appeal, and sanctions remain undecided.
Mauricio Pochettino has questioned how the Premier League enforced its financial controls after BBC Sport reported that an independent panel upheld most of the charges against Manchester City. The finding has not been officially confirmed, and the process remains confidential.
The Premier League brought 115 alleged financial-rule breaches against City covering 2009–10 to 2017–18. The club plans to appeal; no sanctions have been announced.
Pochettino described the period as one of “deception” and said the damage to sporting fairness could not be undone. He questioned why controls had been strict for some clubs but lenient for others.
He recalled Tottenham going 18 months without making a transfer while building its stadium, saying the club had to adjust to the Premier League’s financial controls. Pochettino managed Southampton, Tottenham and Chelsea during the period covered by the allegations.
Earlier this month, Pochettino said Chelsea should lose the 2016–17 title over historical rule breaches and that it should go to Tottenham, who finished second.
