Miralem Pjanic has confirmed he played an advisory role in Kerim Alajbegovic’s decision to join Juventus from Bayer Leverkusen, following a period where the 18-year-old Bosnian midfielder was close to finalising a move to Chelsea. Speaking to Football Italia, Pjanic clarified that while he offered his perspective on the Turin-based club, the ultimate choice remained with the player and his family.
Alajbegovic, who developed in Germany before playing for Salzburg in Austria, had reportedly agreed to terms with the London club. However, Juventus secured his signature before the transaction was completed, effectively ending Chelsea’s pursuit of the teenager. The move adds a promising young talent to the squad managed by Luciano Spalletti.
Pjanic, a fellow Bosnian and friend of Alajbegovic’s father, stated that he discussed the merits of Juventus alongside other opportunities available to the midfielder. He noted that Alajbegovic possesses a maturity beyond his years and has long held an interest in Serie A.
“Because Kerim is more mature than his 18 years let on, and he has a good family behind him as well, I told him what I thought about Juventus and about the other opportunities,” Pjanic said. “In the end, it was their choice.”
The transfer highlights the enduring brand appeal of Juventus in the eyes of young talent. Pjanic emphasised the club’s self-sustaining reputation in recruitment, summarising his view with the phrase: “Juve is always Juve.”
Chelsea, described as a big-spending club that attracts young players by offering opportunities to prove themselves, had been keen to sign Alajbegovic. The failure to secure the midfielder represents a significant acquisition for Juventus, who now hope his potential will develop into a major asset for the squad.
Alajbegovic’s arrival marks a strategic coup for the Bianconeri, who managed to intercept a deal that appeared nearly complete. The teenager will now begin his career in Italy, joining a team that Pjanic suggests is already capable of selling itself to the players it wishes to recruit.
