Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Edward Florentino maintains offensive momentum in 2026
Edward Florentino’s statistical output across Low-A and High-A levels underscores the organisation’s developmental pipeline, with projections pointing to a major league debut by 2028.
Edward Florentino, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ third-ranked prospect, has sustained a high level of offensive production during the opening phase of the 2026 minor league season. The 18-year-old Dominican centrefielder, currently assigned to High-A Greensboro, has recorded six home runs across 16 games, maintaining a .305 batting average and a .411 on-base percentage.
Florentino’s recent performance against the Greenville Drive included back-to-back home runs in the final two contests of the series. This achievement brought his season total to six and marked his third home run since joining the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The performance was noted by MLB Pipeline on May 10, 2026, highlighting the prospect’s continued impact at the plate.
Prior to his promotion, Florentino appeared in nine games with Low-A Bradenton earlier in the season. During that stint, he posted a slash line of .321/.500/.750 with a 1.250 OPS and three home runs. Since moving to High-A, he has added three more home runs, recording eight RBIs and two stolen bases while slashing .290/.303/.581 for the Grasshoppers.
The Pirates originally signed Florentino as an international free agent in 2024. He began his professional career in the Dominican Summer League at age 17 before playing full-time minor league baseball in 2025. That season included 54 contests with Low-A Bradenton after progressing through the Florida Complex League. He also participated in the Pirates’ big league Spring Training in Bradenton as a non-roster invitee and represented the club in the Spring Breakout.
Analysts attribute Florentino’s hitting proficiency to a combination of plate discipline, raw strength, and high hitting IQ. Standing 6’4”, he has continued to add muscle to his frame since signing. His athletic profile in the outfield has also improved, with increased proficiency in navigating centrefield and tracking fly balls. The organisation projects Florentino to reach the major leagues by 2028.
