The PGA of America has officially announced host sites for the four major championships through the 2035 season, providing a long-term roadmap for the sport's premier events. This strategic announcement coincides with the 2026 PGA Championship taking place at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. The venue marks a significant return for the course, which last hosted the event in 1962.
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler leads the field as he attempts to retain the title won at Quail Hollow Club in 2025. The top-ranked golfer joins a competitive roster that includes Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Dustin Johnson. Notable absences from the tournament include Phil Mickelson, who is away due to a family matter, and Tiger Woods.
Broadcast coverage for the competition is being handled by ESPN and CBS, with specific time slots allocated for each day of play. Tee times for the first two days of the tournament were scheduled to be released on Tuesday. While the official purse for the 2026 event has not yet been announced, the previous year's prize pool stood at $19 million.
The winner of the tournament will be awarded the Wanamaker Trophy. Although the original trophy from 1916 has been retired, the current version features the victor's name engraved on the bottom. The PGA of America clarified the distinction between its organisation and the PGA Tour, noting that while the Tour operates the league's signature events, the PGA of America is responsible for the major championships.
This structural separation highlights that the PGA of America, founded in 1916, is comprised of club professionals rather than tour competitors. Consequently, a club professional has never won the PGA Championship, with the closest finish historically occurring in 1971. The 2026 field represents the latest iteration of this institutionally managed competition, distinct from the league operations of the PGA Tour.
The schedule released by the PGA of America outlines the venues for the majors from 2027 through 2035, ensuring continuity for the sport's calendar.
