Pete Alonso reaches 300 home runs against former team Mets
The Orioles first baseman tied the game at Citi Field before Baltimore defeated New York in 11 innings.
Pete Alonso hit his 300th career home run against the New York Mets, his former team, as Baltimore’s first baseman delivered a game-tying shot in the ninth inning at Citi Field.
The Orioles went on to win in 11 innings, turning Alonso’s milestone into a decisive moment against the club where he spent the first seven seasons of his MLB career.
According to Fox Sports, Alonso is the Mets’ franchise leader in home runs with 264. His Mets statistics also include 712 RBIs, a .516 slugging percentage, a .857 OPS and 1,942 total bases.
Alonso hit 53 home runs as a Mets rookie in 2019, which Fox Sports described as the most by an MLB player in a rookie season. He also won the Home Run Derby in 2019 and 2021, and received five All-Star selections.
Fox Sports reported that the Mets did not come close to matching Baltimore’s five-year, US$155 million offer for Alonso. His return to Citi Field provided a reminder of his production for New York, while giving the Orioles a milestone and a win in the same contest.
