PCAOB appoints Kyle Hauptman to board with term extending to 2029
Hauptman’s appointment follows a swearing-in ceremony at the Securities and Exchange Commission, with the board member’s tenure set to conclude in October 2029.

Kyle Hauptman has been sworn in as a board member of the US Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), concluding a ceremony held at the US Securities and Exchange Commission. His appointment carries a term that will run until 24 October 2029, marking a significant addition to the regulator’s leadership as it navigates evolving market dynamics.
PCAOB chairman Demetrios Logothetis, who was selected for the role in February this year, welcomed Hauptman to the board. Logothetis cited Hauptman’s deep expertise and extensive experience as invaluable assets as the agency advances its efforts to modernise the PCAOB and strengthen its position as a durable regulator capable of meeting the opportunities and challenges of the coming decades.
Prior to his appointment to the PCAOB, Hauptman served as chairman of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). He was initially appointed by US President Donald J. Trump and confirmed by the US Senate as an NCUA board member in December 2020, before being elevated to the chairmanship in January 2025.
Hauptman’s professional background extends beyond his recent regulatory roles. He previously worked as an economic policy adviser to Senator Tom Cotton and served as staff director for the Senate Banking Committee’s subcommittee on economic policy. His earlier career included positions at the American Enterprise Institute, Jefferies and Co., and Lehman Brothers.
Upon joining the PCAOB, Hauptman stated he was honoured to work with his colleagues to strengthen capital markets. He noted a particular interest in the technological changes transforming both the audit industry and the regulator itself, aligning with the agency’s current strategic focus.
The appointment comes as the PCAOB has initiated a public consultation on proposed goals and objectives for its strategic plan covering the period from 2026 to 2030. The comment period for this strategic framework remains open until 4 September 2026, providing a window for industry feedback as the board settles into its new composition.
