Palestinian-American Loui Ridi is travelling from the United States to Qusra in the West Bank, where his family’s home is currently encircled by Israeli settlers. The departure marks a direct engagement with the security situation in the village, which has become a focal point for international attention regarding the expansion of settler infrastructure.
The village of Qusra, located south of Nablus, has experienced a second week of siege targeting three Palestinian families. According to reports, fifteen Palestinians, including two children, remain besieged in their homes within the Ras al-Ain area. Israeli soldiers have rotated positions and erected a tent in front of residents’ homes following the dismantling of a settler tent that had been previously attempted.
The movement of Ridi into the area coincides with heightened tensions ahead of Israeli elections. Mustafa Barghouti, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, stated that settler groups carry out an average of 30 attacks daily. He described the campaign as one aimed at annexation and displacement, calling for Arab and international pressure on Washington to halt Israeli actions.
UN rapporteurs have warned of ethnic cleansing as settlers establish new outposts in the region. The expansion of this infrastructure is occurring simultaneously with the ongoing siege in Qusra, where the presence of Israeli forces and settlers has effectively isolated the residents.
The situation in Qusra reflects a broader pattern of unrest across the West Bank. Experts, including Knesset member Ofer Cassif and political commentator Ori Goldberg, have provided analysis on the escalating violence. The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society noted that Israeli forces have escalated arrests in towns where illegal settlements are expanding.
