Padres roster Musgrove after two seasons out
Joe Musgrove is eligible for San Diego’s Wild Card Series against Chicago, but the club has not said whether he will pitch.
The San Diego Padres have named Joe Musgrove to their 26-man roster for the National League Wild Card Series against the Chicago Cubs, making the right-hander eligible to play after missing the 2025 and 2026 regular seasons.
Musgrove’s last major league appearance was on 2 October 2024, when he left a Wild Card game against Atlanta with a right elbow injury. He underwent Tommy John surgery and his recovery took longer than expected.
He made four rehabilitation appearances in August and has pitched in instructional league games this month. Musgrove said recovery after his rehab outings remained difficult, according to an Associated Press report carried by Fox Sports.
The Padres selected him for their 11-man postseason pitching staff. The roster move does not establish whether he will pitch in the series or what role he might take.
Outfielder Miguel Andújar was also included despite not playing since 19 July because of a broken wrist. Catcher Ethan Salas, 20, is on the roster; if he plays, he would become the youngest catcher to appear in an MLB postseason game.
