Padres halt Brewers’ winning streak with late-inning surge
San Diego overcomes strong pitching performance from Milwaukee starter to snap five-game losing streak
The San Diego Padres ended the Milwaukee Brewers’ five-game winning streak on Wednesday with a 3-1 victory, secured by a decisive three-run home run in the ninth inning. Gavin Sheets launched the shot off reliever Abner Uribe with two outs, providing the margin needed to overcome a dominant starting performance from Milwaukee’s Jacob Misiorowski.
Misiorowski delivered his third consecutive scoreless outing, striking out 10 batters over seven innings while allowing just four hits and issuing no walks. He maintained a high velocity, throwing 40 pitches at 100 mph or higher for the third straight game. His performance included retiring 14 consecutive batters, ending the seventh inning with a strikeout of Nick Castellanos on a 103.2 mph pitch.
The Brewers’ starter was removed in the eighth inning after motioning to his right leg following a warmup pitch. Misiorowski has a history of right hamstring cramps, having previously left a start on May 1 due to the same issue. Over his last three outings, he has allowed six hits in 18 1/3 innings with 29 strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 2.12.
Jason Adam secured the win for San Diego by pitching a scoreless eighth inning. The Padres’ bullpen held firm in the ninth, with Mason Miller recording his 13th save in as many opportunities. Miller struck out Jackson Chourio to end the game after working around a leadoff single from Luis Rengifo.
Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy confirmed that outfielder Christian Yelich did not play as a precautionary measure. Yelich had recently returned from a month-long injury list stint with an adductor strain but reported back soreness. The series concludes on Thursday with Griffin Canning starting for San Diego and Kyle Harrison taking the mound for Milwaukee.
