Packers maintain faith in Jacobs as NFL review continues

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst have indicated that the club remains optimistic about running back Josh Jacobs returning to the field this season. Jacobs, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, is currently on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list following the filing of misdemeanor charges for battery and criminal damage to property.

The administrative placement allows Jacobs to receive his salary but prevents him from playing or practising while the league investigates the matter. LaFleur stated that while he does not know all the details of the incident, he trusts Jacobs based on their conversations and will continue to do so until proven otherwise.

Gutekunst confirmed that the team is prepared for any outcome, noting that they are hopeful for a return before the end of the season but will let the process play out. He acknowledged that the general manager has not yet reviewed the video evidence held by the Brown County District Attorney’s office, which allegedly corroborates statements made by Jacobs’ girlfriend.

The charges stem from an alleged domestic incident on 23 May in Hobart-Lawrence, Wisconsin, for which Jacobs was arrested on 26 May. Police reports indicate that Jacobs’ girlfriend alleged she sustained a lump on her head during a struggle over a mobile phone. The NFL placed Jacobs on the exempt list three days after the charges were formally filed.

Jacobs’ legal team has clarified that the placement on the commissioner’s exempt list is an administrative decision made while the matter is under review and is not a final determination. They added that Jacobs looks forward to his return to the team and the NFL.

The Packers have confirmed that any games Jacobs misses while on the exempt list will count towards a potential suspension. Additionally, he would be required to repay earnings received during that period if a formal suspension is imposed.
