Packers' Jacobs out of jail; investigation ongoing...
Brown County District Attorney delays charging decision; NFL monitors situation

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was released from custody in Wisconsin on Wednesday following his arrest on multiple domestic violence charges. The Brown County District Attorney’s office confirmed that the investigation remains open and ongoing, stating that no formal charging decision has been made pending further evidence.

District Attorney David L. Lasee indicated that prosecutors are not yet prepared to file formal charges. In a statement, Lasee noted that the office has requested additional investigation, believing that further evidence may exist which could impact the appropriateness and nature of any potential charges. Jacobs, 28, was booked on Tuesday by the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department on five counts, including battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, and intimidation of a victim.

According to jail records, the charge of strangulation and suffocation is classified as a felony, while the remaining four charges are misdemeanours. Jacobs’ legal team, comprising attorneys David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld, and Clarence Duchac, issued a statement on Wednesday expressing satisfaction with his release. The attorneys reiterated their confidence that a full evaluation of the evidence will confirm that no charges should be brought against Jacobs.

The announcement coincided with the Packers’ first Organized Team Activity (OTA) practice open to the media. Head coach Matt LaFleur declined to comment beyond the team’s previous statement, stating he would let the legal process play out. The organisation subsequently cancelled post-practice media availability with players. During the session, Chris Brooks and Pierre Strong Jr. handled most running back snaps with the starting offense, while Jacobs and Micah Parsons were the only roster players absent.

The NFL stated it is closely monitoring all developments in the matter. Jacobs, who signed with the Packers in free agency in 2024, is entering his third season with the club. He was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2022 with the Las Vegas Raiders and recorded 1,211 rushing yards and 14 total touchdowns last season.
