Entering the series opener, the Rays were riding a nine-game winning streak, but the Orioles’ offense proved decisive in the seventh inning. Gunnar Henderson, who had experienced a period of struggle earlier in the 2026 season, initiated the rally with a double into right field. Christian Encarnacion-Strand followed with a hard single to left, advancing Henderson to third base.
The inning featured a confusing sequence involving Leody Taveras, who chopped a ball down the third-base line that caught Henderson in a run-down. Henderson successfully retreated to third, while Encarnacion-Strand was tagged out as Taveras took second base. Beavers delivered a pinch-hit single under the glove of first baseman Jonathan Aranda, driving in two runs to give Baltimore a 4-2 lead. The game’s tension peaked in the ninth inning when reliever Yenneir Cano struggled, allowing back-to-back singles to Richie Palacios and Taylor Walls. Cano then walked Chandler Simpson, who stole second and third with pinch-runner Jorge Mateo. An RBI groundout by Junior Caminero further reduced the lead to one run.
