One dead, nine injured in Midland shooting as police confirm suspect deceased
Local witnesses reported hearing approximately 40 shots during the incident on Friday morning, with four victims undergoing surgery and five in stable condition at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Authorities in Midland, Texas, have confirmed that at least one person was killed and nine others hospitalised following a shooting incident on Friday morning. The suspected attacker was also confirmed deceased after a standoff with police, ending an incident that involved a barricade inside a building for several hours.
Local witnesses told The Associated Press that they heard approximately 40 shots fired during the event. While this figure represents an estimate from those on the ground rather than a verified count, it underscores the intensity of the confrontation that unfolded in the city.
Midland Memorial Hospital reported the current status of those injured, stating that four victims are undergoing surgery while five others are in stable condition. The hospital’s update provides the clearest picture of the medical response to the casualties resulting from the shooting.
In a statement issued via social media, the city government confirmed that the active shooter incident has been resolved. However, officials emphasised that the scene remains active and has not been cleared for public access. Road closures in the affected area are expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future as the investigation continues.
Mayor Lori Blong addressed the media at a news conference, expressing support for those affected by the tragedy. “Our thoughts and prayers are absolutely with the victims, and with their families,” she said, as local authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the event.
