Ole Miss survives Louisville as LSU showdown approaches
A 48-yard walk-off field goal secured Ole Miss a 41–38 win, setting up a Week 3 meeting with former coach Lane Kiffin’s LSU.
Ole Miss opened its season with a 41–38 victory over Louisville in Nashville, sealed by Lucas Carneiro’s 48-yard field goal as time expired.
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss led the decisive late drive, continuing a pattern of close finishes that he said he dislikes. The result reflected Ole Miss’ offensive production, but also a game in which defensive resistance was limited.
The win moves attention towards Ole Miss’ scheduled Week 3 meeting with LSU, coached by former Rebels coach Lane Kiffin. The teams are due to meet two Saturdays after the Louisville game.
LSU enters the matchup after a 51–10 win over Clemson in its season opener. Ole Miss coach Pete Golding said LSU had played particularly well defensively, highlighting the team’s strength up front.
Ole Miss reached the College Football Playoff semi-finals last season during the period surrounding Kiffin’s move to LSU. The upcoming meeting will therefore bring together a reigning playoff contender and an LSU side that has made an emphatic start to the season.
