Oklahoma State adds former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers to coaching staff

Oklahoma State football has strengthened its coaching bench by appointing former Mississippi State and Washington quarterback Will Rogers to the staff. Head coach Eric Morris confirmed the addition at a press conference in Stillwater, indicating that Rogers will assist in the development of the team’s quarterbacks. The appointment distinguishes the new coach from the famous early Hollywood star and Oklahoman of the same name.
Rogers, a native of Brandon, Mississippi, played five seasons of college football, splitting his time between Mississippi State from 2020 to 2023 and Washington in 2024. He finished his playing career as Mississippi State’s all-time passing leader, having thrown for more than 14,000 career yards. Although the specific official title has not been explicitly defined in public reports, Morris suggested the role focuses on quarterback instruction.
Morris described the offensive staff structure as a group he has worked with extensively. He noted that he could leave the installation of the offensive staff to trusted colleagues, specifically mentioning Sean Brophy. To support this structure, the coaching staff also inserted Kevin Kilmer, a former Texas Tech colleague of Morris, to help with play-calling and quarterback development.
The addition of Rogers aims to provide stability for the current quarterback group. Redshirt sophomore Drew Mestemaker is the designated starter, while redshirt senior Grant Jordan and freshman Broderick Vehrs are competing for the backup role. Morris expressed confidence in the new setup, stating that the quarterback position is one he no longer needs to worry about directly.
Despite the announcement, Rogers is not yet listed on the official Oklahoma State roster. The appointment was announced verbally at the press conference, with formal roster listings pending. The move signals a focus on continuity and experienced mentorship for the Cowboys’ offensive unit.
