Ohio State’s next two opponents produced sharply different results in Week 1, setting up contrasting tests for the Buckeyes after their 56–3 win over Ball State at Ohio Stadium.

Texas began its season with a strong performance led by quarterback Arch Manning. He completed 20 of 27 passes for 305 yards, four touchdowns and one interception before giving way to backup KJ Lacey.

Manning threw two touchdown passes to Cam Coleman and connected with Ryan Wingo for another score. The result has heightened attention around Texas ahead of its scheduled Week 2 meeting with Ohio State.

Kent State’s opening game was considerably more difficult. The Golden Flashes were shut out 57–0 by South Carolina and managed 179 total yards, while South Carolina recorded 645.
