Numerai completes $1.2 million NMR buyback as hedge fund assets hit $700 million
The firm’s third strategic repurchase brings total buybacks to $3.2 million in under a year, coinciding with monthly trading volumes exceeding $1 billion across 30 global markets.

Numerai has completed its third strategic buyback of Numeraire (NMR) tokens, acquiring $1.2 million worth of the digital asset through Coinbase Institutional. The transaction elevates the company’s total repurchases to $3.2 million in less than a year, signalling a continued commitment to managing the token’s supply dynamics while supporting its operational infrastructure.
The acquisition was executed at or near the bid price over several weeks to avoid placing abrupt pressure on the relatively thin market. In a departure from previous announcements, Numerai disclosed the purchase only after the full transaction had been completed, a move that underscores the firm’s preference for discretion during accumulation phases.
The primary objective of the buyback is to replenish the treasury used for tournament rewards and staking payouts, rather than permanently removing tokens from circulation. This distinction is critical for understanding the token’s utility within the ecosystem, where liquidity is required to incentivise data scientists and maintain the integrity of the prediction market.
Concurrently, the crowdsourced hedge fund managed by Numerai has expanded its assets under management to approximately $700 million, up from roughly $560 million at the end of 2025. The fund now trades more than $1 billion each month across 30 global markets, reflecting the growing scale of the machine-learning models it aggregates.
Numerai operates a global data-science tournament where contributors build models to forecast equity markets. Participants stake NMR behind their predictions, earning additional tokens when models perform well and risking part of their stake when results fall short. These submissions are combined into a Stake-Weighted Meta Model to generate trading signals for the hedge fund.
Network participation has accelerated alongside the fund’s growth. More than 1.1 million NMR is now staked across the network, with the number of active accounts having more than doubled over the past year. The firm has also introduced new infrastructure for autonomous AI participation, including Skills, Model Context Protocol integrations, and Atomic Blockchain Staking.
NMR has a fixed maximum supply of 11 million tokens. Prior to the latest purchase, approximately 3.1 million tokens were held in Numerai’s treasury. Numeraire is currently trading at $10.07 U.S. per digital token, reflecting the market’s assessment of the firm’s expanding institutional footprint and technological capabilities.
