Nor’easter disrupts power, flights and public events in US north-east

Heavy rain and strong winds from a nor’easter disrupted electricity, air travel and public events across the north-eastern United States on Saturday. New York, Boston and Philadelphia were among the cities affected.
The National Weather Service warned of significant coastal flooding over multiple high-tide cycles through the weekend, urging people in low-lying areas near the shore to prepare for inundation. Residents were also warned of possible road closures.
Poweroutage.com estimated about 95,000 people across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania were facing outages at 3pm on Saturday.
FlightAware reported 439 cancellations involving US airports and 2,459 delays by 6.13pm local time. Boston Logan accounted for 253 cancellations. The figures are snapshots and may have changed.
Festivals in New York and Maryland were called off, as were Ed Sheeran concerts near Boston. Organisers of New York’s Global Citizen festival said safety had to come first.
Around five inches of rain was forecast in parts of Massachusetts, including Boston. The forecast was not a confirmed rainfall total.
