Europe captain Anna Nordqvist attributed Bernardus Golf’s softer greens to rain and seasonal conditions after USA captain Angela Stanford questioned the course set-up.
Anna Nordqvist has rejected suggestions Bernardus Golf was prepared to favour Europe after USA captain Angela Stanford questioned the slower greens at the Solheim Cup.
Europe retained the trophy with a 15-13 victory in the Netherlands, recovering from an 8-8 tie after the opening two days by winning Sunday’s singles.
Stanford said the greens had been faster when the USA visited in July and suggested the change had disadvantaged her team. She also said the USA had not made enough putts, while acknowledging Europe had putted better.
Nordqvist attributed the softer conditions to recent rain and seasonal weather. She said the course team had been managing firmness after a hot, dry summer, but that the greens played softer than expected once rain arrived.
Stanford also said the USA’s celebrations after Jennifer Kupcho’s Saturday result created a “high high” that took time to come down from. She said the team had handled the moment well and did not regard it as mishandled.
The next Solheim Cup is scheduled for 2028 at Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky.
