Search-and-rescue teams are working at the site of a Nigerian military aircraft crash in Ondo state, after wreckage was located near the naval base in Igbokoda.

The Nigerian Air Force identified the aircraft as an ATR-42 on a routine flight from Benin to Lagos. Air traffic controllers lost contact at 09:13 local time, and repeated radio calls went unanswered.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said preliminary information indicated 25 passengers and seven crew were aboard. The figure has not been confirmed independently.

Keyamo said he had spoken with Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke and offered the Aviation Ministry’s assistance with the rescue effort.

Authorities have not confirmed whether anyone was killed or injured. The condition of those aboard, the extent of the damage and the cause of the crash remain unknown.
