NFL Week 2 injury list grows as major players face uncertain absences

Several prominent NFL players are facing extended or uncertain absences after injuries sustained during the opening week of the 2026 season, according to CBS Sports.
Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Myles Garrett will undergo knee surgery and has been placed on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least four games. No further recovery timeline has been established. Garrett, the 2025 Defensive Player of the Year, set a reported single-season record with 23 sacks last season.
New England Patriots receiver A.J. Brown is also on injured reserve after suffering a high right ankle sprain in the season-opening loss to Seattle. He is expected to miss at least four games, leaving the Patriots without the leading target acquired during the off-season.
Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold has been ruled out for Week 2 with a reported soft-tissue hip injury. The injury is described as having no structural damage to the hip joint, but no confirmed recovery timeline has been set.
San Francisco rookie receiver De’Zhaun Stribling is expected to miss about 10 weeks after ankle surgery, while Philadelphia guard Landon Dickerson is expected to be placed on injured reserve after aggravating a lower-body injury.
Other players have less definitive outlooks. Las Vegas tight end Brock Bowers is projected to miss one or two games after a meniscus procedure, while Kyler Murray remains in concussion protocol. Zay Flowers, Ladd McConkey and DeMarvion Overshown have been described as day to day or likely to miss one to two weeks. Dallas safety Malik Hooker and Philadelphia edge rusher Jonathan Greenard also remain uncertain.
