NFL Week 1 delivers upsets and historic results as CBS Sports begins team grades
Baltimore received an A- from CBS Sports, while Arizona stunned the Chargers and both New York teams opened with victories.
CBS Sports has begun its rolling assessment of the 2026 NFL season after an opening week marked by unexpected results and record claims. Baltimore received an A-, while Buffalo earned a high mark for defeating Houston.
Arizona produced the round’s biggest upset, beating the Los Angeles Chargers 26–14 as a reported 9.5-point underdog. The result added an early shock to a week CBS Sports described as unusually unpredictable.
New Orleans recovered from a 21–0 deficit against Detroit to force overtime, but lost after attempting a two-point conversion. Chicago and Carolina also produced a high-scoring contest, combining for 96 points — reported by CBS Sports as the highest total in a Week 1 game.
Cleveland’s 34–10 loss to Jacksonville extended what CBS Sports said is a 3–24–1 opening-week record for the Browns since their return to the NFL in 1999. The Jets and Giants both won their openers, reportedly marking the first time since 2009 that both New York teams had won in Week 1.
Buffalo’s victory in Houston was also notable for Josh Allen, who won on the road against the Texans for the first time. CBS Sports said further team grades would be added as remaining games finished.
