NBA confirms no disciplinary action for Adebayo following Las Vegas altercation

The National Basketball Association has confirmed it will not take disciplinary action against Miami Heat centre Bam Adebayo following a physical altercation with former teammate Tyler Herro. A league spokesperson stated that after consulting with both players and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), all parties preferred to move on from the incident, which occurred at the Resorts World Hotel gym in Las Vegas last Friday.

The confrontation reportedly stemmed from social media comments allegedly made by Herro questioning Adebayo’s $60 million salary and performance. Sources indicated that Adebayo confronted Herro regarding posts that suggested Herro required more support from his teammates, a reference to comments Adebayo had previously made after the Heat’s elimination in the play-in tournament. The encounter escalated when Herro responded verbally, leading to a physical exchange where Adebayo struck Herro near the chin, though descriptions of the contact remain in some dispute.

Herro, who has since joined the Milwaukee Bucks following a blockbuster trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo, stated he wished to put the incident behind him. Speaking to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Herro said he is focused on his new role with the Bucks and building something special with the franchise. He was restrained by others in the gym during the altercation and did not fall to the ground, according to sources with knowledge of the event.

The relationship between the two players had reportedly deteriorated over the past year. Heat sources noted that while Adebayo and Herro maintained a mostly positive dynamic during their seven-year tenure together, they grew apart due to Herro’s injury struggles, having played only 33 games in the 2025-26 season, and his adjustment to the team’s new offensive scheme. Herro averaged 20.5 points in his limited appearances this season after recovering from left ankle surgery.

Adebayo, a three-time All-Star and five-time All-Defensive team selection, remains a cornerstone for the Heat. He recently scored a franchise-record 83 points against the Washington Wizards, surpassing Kobe Bryant’s previous record. The NBA’s decision to forgo further action underscores the league’s reliance on internal resolution mechanisms when all involved parties, including the players’ union, agree to close the matter.
