NASA to Announce Artemis III Crew, Provide Mission Progress Update
Live briefing from Houston will reveal astronauts for lunar landing mission

NASA will hold a live event at 11 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, June 9, at the Johnson Space Center in Houston to announce the astronauts assigned to the Artemis III mission. The briefing will also provide an update on the mission's progress and will be streamed on NASA+ and the agency’s YouTube channel.

Artemis III is scheduled to launch four astronauts from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The crew will travel aboard the Orion spacecraft on the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. A primary objective of the mission is to test critical rendezvous and docking capabilities between Orion and commercial human landing systems, which are required to deliver astronauts to the lunar surface.

The mission builds on the successful Artemis II crewed test flight that occurred in April. According to NASA, Artemis III will pave the way for future surface missions as part of a broader strategy to establish an enduring human presence on the Moon. The agency describes the program as part of a "Golden Age of innovation and exploration," aiming for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and laying the foundation for the first crewed missions to Mars.

Media accreditation deadlines have been established for the event. International media must contact the NASA Johnson newsroom by 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, while US media must submit their requests by 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 4. Registered media will receive confirmation and additional event details by email.

Following the announcement, the Artemis III crew will be available for limited in-person and virtual interviews. Requests for these interviews must be submitted to the NASA Johnson newsroom by 5 p.m. on June 4. Contact details for media inquiries include Rachel Kraft at Headquarters and Anna Schneider at the Johnson Space Center.
