NASA plans free Moon-gazing event in Huntsville
The 19 September programme will feature lunar science talks, Artemis II observations, STEM activities and telescopes.
NASA will host a free International Observe the Moon Night celebration at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, from 5.30pm to 8pm CST on Saturday, 19 September.
The annual observance celebrates the Moon, lunar science, space exploration and human culture. It has been held each year since 2010, with additional local and virtual events available for people unable to attend in person.
NASA says agency experts will deliver talks on lunar science and exploration, including lunar observations made by the Artemis II crew in April. The agency has not specified which observations will be discussed.
The programme will also include hands-on STEM activities, a science stage show, a photo booth and face-painting. Television host Janet Ivey, of the children’s series Janet’s Planet, is scheduled to take part.
The Von Braun Astronomical Society will provide telescopes and guided tours of the Moon, planets and other celestial objects. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is the official visitor centre for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, which is presenting the evening through its Planetary Missions Program Office.
