Nabati reverses Arapaho Gold form to win Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury
Charlie Appleby’s colt edged Jolivette by a short head, with Arapaho Gold third, while Jack Nicholls claimed his first Group-race victory aboard Miss Yechance.
Nabati has reversed his earlier defeat by Arapaho Gold to win the 2026 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury for trainer Charlie Appleby and jockey William Buick.
The Godolphin colt finished a short head ahead of Jolivette, with Arapaho Gold a further neck behind in third. The race was run in honour of Ian Balding.
The result changed the form of July’s Listed Rose Bowl Stakes, when Arapaho Gold beat Nabati over the same course and distance. Arapaho Gold subsequently won the Gimcrack Stakes, while Nabati recorded a victory at Newmarket before finishing third in the Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster.
Sky Sports reported that Buick gave Nabati a patient ride before the 7-4 chance edged clear in the closing stages.
Nicholls also secured his first Group-race victory at the meeting, steering Miss Yechance to success in the Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes. The pair had previously won a handicap at York’s Ebor meeting.
Miss Yechance made the running to beat Shagraan by a neck, with Diligent Harry third and favourite Starlust fourth.
