Musical Spirograph is a browser-based application that merges the geometric mechanics of the classic toy with generative music composition. As reported by The Verge, the tool uses mathematical equations to generate hypotrochoids and epitrochoids, creating visual patterns that trigger specific musical notes as points pass through concentric rings.
The interface offers a high degree of customisation for users looking to refine their compositions. Individuals can select from six different virtual rotors and activate up to three drawing arms to operate simultaneously. Additional parameters allow for the adjustment of the pattern, while six distinct musical scale options and six synth presets provide control over the audio output.
Further technical adjustments include the ability to modify quantisation and BPM settings. Users can also expand the number of rings to cover two octaves, or completely customise the notes if they prefer not to use the preset scales.

Additionally, the application currently lacks a MIDI output feature, which prevents users from controlling external instruments with the generated data.
