The first fall Morris/Sussex Athlete of the Week poll is open, with eight high-school athletes nominated for performances in soccer and field hockey. Voting closes at 5 p.m. Thursday, according to Yahoo Sports.

The nominations, provided by coaches and listed alphabetically, include Montville soccer striker Karolina Bodyziak, who was credited with seven goals in her side’s first two matches and 52 career goals.

Other soccer nominees include Kittatinny’s Nora Deckert, who scored twice in a 4–3 season-opening win over Hackettstown, and High Point’s Juliette Matti, who recorded three goals and two assists as her team began 3–0.

Newton goalkeeper Ava Kithcart was credited with stopping 82 per cent of shots faced and preventing opponents from scoring on 23 of 24 corners. Boonton midfielder Eleyna Mene recorded one goal and two assists in a 6–0 win over Parsippany Hills.

The field hockey nominees include Mendham’s Kaiden Reed, credited with five goals, including two game winners, and Parsippany’s Arianna Zajac, who recorded three goals and three assists across the team’s first two games.
