Morocco names first woman prime minister after election
King Mohammed VI has tasked Marrakesh mayor Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri with forming a government after her party came out on top in the parliamentary election.
King Mohammed VI has appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as Morocco’s prime minister and tasked her with forming a new government, the royal cabinet said on 29 September.
The cabinet described El Mansouri as the country’s first woman to hold the office. She is Marrakesh’s mayor and has previously served as minister of habitat.
Her Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) came out on top in the 23 September parliamentary election, according to the royal palace, as reported by France 24. PAM is part of Morocco’s ruling coalition.
