Mooreville Troopers test offensive depth in 28-point jamboree win

The Mooreville Troopers generated 28 points during a two-quarter jamboree against Kossuth, a non-competitive scrimmage that served as a critical evaluation for the coaching staff. While the nature of the game limits direct comparison to regular-season results, the offensive execution provided clear indicators of the team’s readiness for the upcoming campaign.

Junior quarterback Cam Kady demonstrated passing efficiency by throwing two touchdown passes without a single turnover. He found junior Jett Hussey for both scores, with Hussey finishing the session with five receptions and close to 100 yards. Sophomore Jerry Meredith also contributed, recording a 30-yard catch that set up the final touchdown of the scrimmage.

On the ground, sophomore Levi Gray emerged as a standout performer with two rushing touchdowns, including a 25-yard score. Senior Kason Mathis, the team’s leading rusher last season, also moved the ball effectively, driving the Troopers into the red zone to facilitate scoring opportunities.

Mooreville coach Jacob Massey highlighted ball security and offensive protection as primary objectives for the preseason. He noted that the team protected the ball well up front and executed their running game effectively against a quality opponent. However, Massey cautioned that the staff’s film review identified numerous areas for improvement, suggesting the performance was not yet flawless.

The scrimmage provided a platform for Gray to prove his versatility, a factor Massey cited as a source of confidence for his varsity readiness. The coach stated that seeing Gray perform against good competition allowed the staff to trust his ability to contribute in a competitive environment.

Mooreville will now shift its focus to the regular season, opening its schedule with a trip to Ripley. The matchup carries historical weight, as Ripley defeated Mooreville 10-3 in the previous year’s contest. Massey described Ripley as an athletic and well-coached opponent, indicating that Mooreville will need to maintain its jamboree-level ball security to secure a result.
