MLS launches tampering probe into Casemiro’s Inter Miami transfer
Major League Soccer has confirmed it is investigating the transfer of Casemiro to Inter Miami following allegations of tampering, despite the player having already signed a contract with the Florida club.
Major League Soccer has initiated an investigation into the transfer of former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro to Inter Miami, citing allegations of tampering. The league confirmed it is gathering all relevant information regarding the deal and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete.
The 34-year-old Brazilian international has completed his move to Inter Miami on a contract running until the end of the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, with an option to extend until June 2029, subject to visa approval. Casemiro becomes a free agent following the conclusion of his contract at Old Trafford last season, having previously played for Sao Paulo before his career in Europe.
Under MLS regulations, LA Galaxy held Casemiro’s discovery rights, which typically prevents other clubs from negotiating with the player. Inter Miami reached a settlement with the Galaxy regarding this priority, allowing the transfer to proceed. However, the league is now reviewing the arrangement to determine if rules were breached. The terms of the settlement will remain confidential and will only be released upon the conclusion of the tampering investigation.
Casemiro is set to link up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami, pending visa clearance. The timeline for his debut remains unclear as he awaits the necessary documentation. The midfielder brings significant experience to the club, including five Champions League winners’ medals, FA Cup and League Cup triumphs in England, and 91 caps for Brazil, with his last five appearances coming at the 2026 World Cup.
Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham and Managing Owner Jorge Mas issued statements welcoming the player, highlighting his leadership and winning mentality. Beckham expressed pride in welcoming Casemiro and his family, while Mas described the arrival as a reflection of the club’s ambition to become a global benchmark.
