Major League Baseball has officially released the schedule for the 2026 postseason, a move that clarifies the timeline for the upcoming campaign. The announcement, reported by CBS Sports, establishes the framework for the playoffs more than a month before the regular season concludes.
The regular season is set to wrap up on Sunday, 27 September. In a structural shift for this year’s competition, the league has confirmed that no tiebreaker games will be required. Instead, all ties will be resolved mathematically, with head-to-head records serving as the primary method for breaking deadlocks.
Playoffs will commence on Tuesday, 29 September, with the introduction of four Wild Card Series. These best-of-three matchups are scheduled to conclude no later than Thursday, 1 October. The subsequent Division Series will begin on Saturday, 3 October, setting the stage for the next phase of the tournament.
Following the Division Series, the League Championship Series is scheduled to start no earlier than Sunday, 11 October. This flexible scheduling allows for potential adjustments depending on the outcomes of the earlier rounds, ensuring the bracket remains viable regardless of game durations.
The 2026 World Series is scheduled to kick off on Friday, 23 October. Should the series extend to a decisive seventh game, it would take place on Saturday, 31 October. The schedule also notes that any potential Game 6 or Game 7 would be hosted by the team with the better 2025 record, maintaining a standard for home-field advantage in elimination scenarios.
