MLB draft prospects: Oregon’s Cooney, Molony and Scolari feature in latest rankings
Ryan Cooney climbs to No. 133, Maddox Molony drops to No. 173, and Cal Scolari enters at No. 191 in MLB.com’s updated list ahead of the Eugene Regional.

MLB.com has released its latest iteration of the top 200 draft prospects, placing three University of Oregon players on the list as the NCAA baseball tournament begins. The announcement coincides with the start of the Eugene Regional, where the Ducks are set to face the Yale Bulldogs on Friday.
Infielder Ryan Cooney has moved up one spot to No. 133, a slight improvement from his position at the start of the month. Cooney, who began the season ranked at No. 49, leads the team with a .338 batting average. His offensive profile includes eight home runs, 19 doubles, and 39 RBIs, alongside a disciplined approach that has resulted in 30 walks compared to 28 strikeouts. He has also contributed on the base paths with 13 stolen bases.
In contrast, infielder Maddox Molony has experienced a significant decline in the rankings, falling from No. 122 to No. 173. Molony, who also started the season at No. 49, has struggled with his average, sitting at .230 despite hitting 12 home runs. The Springfield native has shown recent signs of life, hitting home runs against USC and Nebraska, but his overall projection has softened from early-season whispers of a first-round selection.
Pitcher Cal Scolari is the newest entrant to the list, debuting at No. 191. The San Diego transfer missed nearly a month of play earlier in the season due to an arm injury but has finished strong. Scolari holds a 2.94 ERA and delivered a season-high 10 strikeouts in five innings against Washington during the conference tournament. His arsenal features a mid-90s fastball and a slider that misses bats 42% of the time.
The Eugene Regional begins on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. PT. The tournament bracket also includes the Oregon State Beavers, adding local rivalry stakes to the event. Scouts from Major League Baseball organizations are expected to be in attendance to evaluate the prospects ahead of the upcoming draft.
