Mistral has announced a €3 billion Series D funding round at a post-money valuation exceeding €21 billion, in a deal the artificial intelligence company describes as the largest equity fundraising by a European technology company.

Samsung Electronics led the round, with Scaleup Europe Fund, managed by EQT, and existing investor PSG Equity as co-leads. Advent, BlackRock-managed funds and accounts, and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg joined as new investors, while a number of existing backers also participated.

Mistral says the funding will expand its frontier research and computing capacity, while supporting infrastructure, commercial operations and its international footprint. The company says it now operates in 20 countries and supports more than 125 global enterprises, including Airbus, ASML and HSBC.

The company is positioning the fundraising around its sovereign AI strategy, built on open-weight models, controllable infrastructure, private and predictable computing, and production systems that can be audited. Mistral says the approach is intended to give organisations greater control over data, models, infrastructure and deployment.

Mistral launched three years ago. Its claims about the round’s record status, valuation, operating footprint and customer base come from the company and have not been independently verified in the supplied material.
