Pitcher throws 57 pitches over 100 mph in dominant performance

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski established a new single-game benchmark for velocity on Monday, throwing 57 pitches at 100 mph or faster in a 5-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The performance marks the highest volume of pitches exceeding 100 mph recorded since Major League Baseball introduced pitch-tracking technology in 2008, surpassing the previous mark of 47 set by Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Greene in 2022.

Misiorowski, who reached a top velocity of 103.4 mph, delivered a career-high 12 strikeouts over seven innings. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing a bloop single to Pedro Pages and conceding a run, which ended his streak of consecutive scoreless innings at 29⅓. The right-hander allowed two hits and one walk in total, improving his earned run average to 1.83 following the win.

The Brewers secured the victory through early offensive production, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Cardinals starter Matthew Liberatore. Jackson Chourio drew a leadoff walk and stole second base before scoring on a single by William Contreras. Christian Yelich followed with an opposite-field two-run home run that travelled 381 feet, extending the advantage.

Andrew Vaughn contributed significantly to the offensive output, going 3-for-4 with a double that drove in a run in the seventh inning. Garrett Mitchell also added an RBI single in the sixth. The Brewers added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings against reliever Brycen Mautz, who was making his major league debut.

The victory extends the Brewers’ lead in the NL Central division over the Cardinals to 2½ games. Misiorowski’s performance stands as a notable statistical outlier in modern baseball metrics, highlighting the increasing velocity trends in professional pitching since the adoption of advanced tracking systems.
