Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski has become the first Major League Baseball player to record 200 strikeouts in the 2026 season, achieving the milestone in just 129 ⅓ innings pitched. The achievement positions him as the second-fastest pitcher in MLB history to reach the mark, trailing only the record set by Spencer Strider in 2022.
Misiorowski reached the 200-strikeout threshold on Sunday, striking out six batters through his first three innings of the game. The pivotal out occurred on a pitch that moved his total innings to 129 ⅓. Early in the contest, he utilised a high-velocity approach, with 29 of his first 30 pitches being fastballs, one of which was recorded at 102 mph.
According to data compiled by MLB, the historical ranking for the fastest pitchers to 200 strikeouts in a season places Misiorowski second. Spencer Strider holds the record from 2022, reaching the milestone in 123 ⅓ innings. The top five list also includes Strider’s 2023 performance (130 innings), Randy Johnson’s 2001 season (130 ⅔ innings), and Gerrit Cole’s 2019 campaign (133 ⅓ innings).
Misiorowski currently leads the majors in Earned Run Average (1.63) and Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched (0.73). These statistics have made him a frontrunner for the National League Cy Young Award, with FanDuel odds indicating he is a significant favourite in the race.
The context of Misiorowski’s performance is underscored by the historical success of those who have previously reached this milestone. Randy Johnson’s 2001 season, which saw him finish with 372 strikeouts, resulted in him winning the National League Cy Young Award with the Diamondbacks and the World Series MVP. Similarly, Strider’s 2023 season saw him record 281 strikeouts, breaking John Smoltz’s single-season strikeout record.
